Play at the piano! OPPO files patent for modular physical keyboard for folding phones

OPPO has already registered several patents for cell phones, one of them even with two folds on the screen, but today we have something different. This time the documentation cites a cell phone with a module that mimics piano keys to offer a more realistic interaction when performing various tasks on folding smartphones.

The images below that illustrate the patent allow us to better understand the concept. In it, a modular system of screens can be fitted over a part of the folding cell phone screen so that the user can perform actions such as typing as if using a physical computer keyboard.

This physical keyboard has the shape of a piano and fits one of the edges of the cell phone with several buttons for the user to change its operating mode and keep the accessory firmly on the screen, allowing it to be fitted to the back of the smartphone while not in use.

Thus, it would be enough to press a key to release the keyboard and use only the touchscreen of the foldable. But the most interesting thing is the way the accessory is shown, as the keyboard appears to have modular keys, making it ideal for various uses in different languages and applications ranging from typing, games to simulating musical instruments.

Unfortunately the patent does not confirm that OPPO will launch a cell phone or accessory with this technology, but it would be interesting to see something like that to make cell phones increasingly versatile.
