The adaptation to Material Design has been slower for the Play Store compared to other Google Workspace apps. What’s new now is that the Android version of the app has gained a new design for its lower tabs, following in the footsteps of Google Maps.
This update includes rounded corners, variations in text to differentiate sections, and a handle on the top edge to expand the sheet. Bottom pages appear when the user is updating or installing new apps from the Explore feed and promotions.
Such pages are also visible when long-pressing an app’s listing in the Play Store.
The new design also extends to the Featured Stories section, which provides recommendations for apps in similar categories.
This update not only makes the Play Store more cohesive with other Google apps in terms of design, but also provides a more modern and cohesive experience for users. To obtain it, interested users need to manually update the application to see these changes, as version 39.7 still appears to be the latest stable version.
In March last year, the virtual store adapted to dynamic colors in buttons, texts and other elements of its interface. They went from green to the standard blue. Last week, Google Play Books also received an update, with a changed design in the search, filters and search bar, for example.
