EHC Biel was the better team over 60 minutes. The Seelanders didn’t allow much on the defensive and if there was something to stop, goalie van Pottelberghe was there. At the front, the Biel strikers proved their composure and secured the important break for the second in qualifying.

Before the second game in this semi-final series, EHC Biel announced that head coach Antti Törmänen would not be on the boards on Saturday evening. The Finn had to undergo a planned operation. It was not known whether the operation was related to his renewed cancer.
