On July 28, 2021, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed through a press release that PlayStation 5 had managed to exceed the figure of 10 million units sold worldwide since its launch on November 12, 2020.

PS5 thus became the platform in the Sony family that had managed to reach that figure the fastest, surpassing the sales rate of its predecessor, PlayStation 4. The new generation console has achieved great acceptance among millions of players around the world who continue to enjoy their favorite games with the highest quality and at the highest speed.

If for the first 10 million it took 8 months, for the remaining 10 it took a little more than 9. The pace has decreased slightly and all this despite the availability problems of some of the platform components.

Sony it sells its PlayStation 5s at a loss, as it costs more to make than the retail price, but makes up for it with sales of games and different forms of entertainment. The gaming and Internet services division had a 12% profit, thanks to digital software and additional content coming out for its video games.
