PlayStation Production Chief Exits After 34 Years: What Does it Mean for the Future of Games-as-a-Service?

We recently reported that PlayStation production chief Connie Booth appears to have left the company after 34 years in the role. The news was first broken by David Jaffe, who has since given us an update in a new video. Jaffe first confirmed that Booth was fired, which he said was “crazy” given the impact she had. Additionally, it is believed that her team was either fired along with her, or they left in protest. The reason behind Connie’s departure appears to be a “movement to games as a service,” which Booth isn’t happy with. With The Last of Us multiplayer project being canceled or put on hold, this essentially served as the last straw, putting a lot of the blame on Booth. PlayStation seems to have a bit of a mess on its hands, as tensions reportedly began when Jim Ryan announced that the company would be moving more toward games-as-a-service.
