PlayStation Store Removal of Discovery Content: Implications for Digital Purchasing and Ownership

2023-12-21 23:40:22

earlier this month, Sony said , they will be removing Discovery Video content from the PlayStation Store due to their licensing agreement with Warner. While that doesn’t sound too bad, it includes stuff that people might buy – meaning that despite buying it, you can’t watch it anymore.
While this isn’t technically Sony’s fault, it certainly doesn’t make them look good and serves as a reminder that going all digital also means you can end up losing what you paid for. Luckily, Sony and Warner Bros. have now stepped up to address the issue… at least to some extent. The new deal means you’ll be able to “At least the next 30 months” to access the Discovery content you paid for – following that, it seems you might lose it once more.
We think this story will return in two and a half years, when purchases from the PlayStation Store may once once more be at risk of being taken away. But until then, at least now you know you probably shouldn’t buy anything from Discovery to PlayStation because you might not be able to keep it.
Has this story changed your perspective on digital purchasing?
