Game news PlayStation: the PS4 definitively abandoned in favor of the PS5? Sony’s response
The PlayStation 4 will soon be ten years old and inevitably, now that the PS5 has been there for two years itself, one can wonder if the older generation is about to really pass the weapon on the left. Spoiler: no, not yet.
PS4, the valiant
We know it: the life cycle of a console is about six or seven years, after which the new generation comes to the fore to gradually replace it.. In the case of this good old PlayStation 4, it will soon be on the market for almost a decade with undeniable success: 117 million sales at the latest news, that’s what’s going on.
Now that the PlayStation 5 is about to blow out its second candle, we are then entitled to wonder what the plans are for its predecessor… and whether or not it is about to be abandoned. The president of PlayStation Studios, Hermen Hulst, spoke on this subject on the microphone of Axios:

We certainly don’t want to forget the millions of active players on PS4 and we want to make sure there are great games out there too. We assess this on a case-by-case basis.
Longevity due to scarcity?
We must also admit that with the shortage that has been raging for years now and which is hitting the PS5 hard, which cannot sell as much as expected despite convincing results, the interest of keeping the PS4 on hand is obvious: Sony can then continue to sell its games to an ultra-consequent park, where that of the PS5 is still struggling to expand.
We imagine that’s part of the reason many exclusives remain cross-platform in 2022.likeHorizon Forbidden West, Grand Touring 7 or very soon God of War Ragnarok. Similarly, Sony’s new policy of expanding into the PC – which has been starting to seriously pick up lately – may well be influenced by the PS5 shortage and revenue shortfall.
In short, if you have a PS4, you should get your money’s worth for a while yet. We will see what is planned there for 2023.
