PM Modi on India Hosting IOC Session in 2023 Olympics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed happiness over the unanimous choice of Mumbai to host the 2023 session of the International Olympic Committee. The Prime Minister’s Office said on its official Twitter account that the decision would bring about a positive change in the world of sports and that the session would be remembered.

The announcement came at the 139th IOC session of the Winter Olympics in Beijing. India is hosting the 2023 IOC Session for the first time in four decades. India last hosted the IOC in 1983. It is observed that this will create a link between the youth of India and the Olympic movement.

IOC member Nita Ambani said the opportunity to host the International Olympic Committee session was a turning point in India’s Olympic dream.
The decision was taken unanimously at the annual meeting of the IOC, which has 101 voting members and 45 honorary members.

Nita Ambani is the first woman to be elected as an IOC member from India. The Indian delegation, which included Narinder Batra, Youth Affairs Minister Anurag Thakur and India’s first individual Olympic gold medalist Abhinav Bindra, attended the IOC session in Beijing.
