Pochettino: I don’t think Mbappe had the upper hand in my dismissal from PSG

Argentinian Mauricio Pochettino, the former coach of Paris Saint-Germain, said that he does not believe that Kylian Mbappe, the star of the team, had the upper hand in his dismissal from his position and that he did a good job in the Parisian team.

Paris Saint-Germain terminated his contract with the Argentine coach last July, just 18 months after his appointment, to be replaced by Christoph Galtier.

Pochettino, the former Tottenham coach, won the French League title last season, the French Cup in 2021 and the French Super Cup during his short stint with the team.

Talks spread about the possibility of Mbappe enjoying increasing influence in Paris Saint-Germain, especially after his refusal to join Real Madrid and sign a new contract with the Parisian team, but Pochettino does not believe that the French international striker sought to dismiss him.

“What I know very well is that Paris Saint-Germain did its best to keep and keep Kilian, and I totally agree with that,” Pochettino said in a lengthy interview with the Argentine news portal InfoPe.

He added: “He is one of the best players in the world today, and I think PSG used all their resources to keep him.”

He explained, “But I do not think that Kilian was the person who drafted the new project for the club, who did this by the club’s management represented by its president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, and those who thought that the very appropriate thing was a new project in the club.”
