The Poco X5 Pro arrived at the beginning of the year as another bet by Xiaomi in the 5G mid-range segment with the promise of delivering great value for money. It brings good advances compared to the predecessor that was quite successful in the segment last year.
The design has been updated and now has a matte finish and a more compact body with the same screen size, thanks to reduced bezels that make better use of the frontal area. The camera part still sports that giant block in black with the name Poco stamped on it.
The screen follows with 6.67 inches with Full HD + resolution and 120 Hz refresh rate. The new panel achieves stronger brightness and supports HDR10+ and Dolby Vision, which makes the Poco X5 Pro great for enjoying series and movies on major streaming services. Stereo sound delivers good power and sound quality to complement the multimedia experience.
The X5 Pro brings the Snapdragon 778G in two versions of RAM: 6 or 8 GB. We tested the model with less memory and it was unable to hold all apps open in our speed test. Anyway, it still shows good performance for the category and runs well even the most demanding games for Android.
The 5,000 mAh battery performed well in our standardized test with almost 29 hours of autonomy, which makes it clear that it survives the whole day away from sockets even in heavier use. In addition, Xiaomi ships a 67W charger in the box that takes less than 50 minutes to fully fill the battery.
The 108 MP camera takes good daytime photos and doesn’t suffer too much in dark places. The night mode could be more efficient and doesn’t quite save the ultra-wide which can be almost useless for shooting at night. At least the camcorder has evolved and now records in 4K, but it lacks more efficient stabilization and better sound capture.
