Poco X5 Review: Until when cameras like this?

2023-06-14 22:52:17

Here, at Oficina da Net, we analyze cell phones to find out which ones are worth buying or not. Xiaomi has always launched dozens of entry-level cell phones, and now it’s time for the POCO X5, which promises to be an excellent Android for users who don’t want to spend a lot. Is the POCO X5 good? We look at cameras, battery life, gaming performance, and more.

Check out this review on YouTube:

cameras

We start by talking about POCO’s simple set of cameras: we have a sensor 48 MP mainone 8 MP ultrawideand a little camera 2 MP macro that didn’t even need to exist. The front camera, on the other hand, selfies, tem 13 MP. We can only shoot in FULL HD and 30 frames, both front and rear.

I didn’t expect good pictures from this phone, after all, we’re talking about an entry-level smartphone from Xiaomi, but I confess that some pictures turned out great.

The cell phone manages to crop the background quite accurately, without losing details of the object in the foreground.

We can see details of Charmander’s plastic, while Pikachu is in the background, that was my intention when taking the photo.

Already the 8 MP Ultrawide works the way we’re used to seeing here – with the sharpness and colors impaired. I only recommend using the ultra-wide when you really need a wide angle, as the quality of the photos ends up coming out much worse than with the main lens.

In selfies, I noticed a lot of inconsistency: some photos look good, others, not so much. The ideal scenario to take good selfies is with the light illuminating your face, this goes for all cell phones, but on the POCO X5 it is very important. If the biggest source of ambient light is at your back, POCO can’t balance the exposure, leaving some parts too dark and others blown out.

In short, the main camera is good, the ultrawide I didn’t like, and the selfies will depend a lot on the ambient lighting.

Check out in the gallery below several photos I took with the main camera, ultra-wide and seflies of the POCO X5:

videos

Filming with this cell phone, we notice that the video is very shaky, with little stabilization. It’s not as bad as the Redmi Note 12, but it’s a point that Xiaomi definitely needs to improve. In terms of quality, we have 1080p in 30 frames, standard on all cell phones in this price range.

Is the POCO X5 screen good?

On the other hand, the POCO X5 has a display 6.67 inch Super AMOLEDresolution FULL HD+ e 120 Hz in refresh rate. To protect against scratches and damage, your cell phone has Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

The biggest plus point of the POCO X5 is the AMOLED screen. Source: Oficina da Net

This is the exact Redmi Note 12 screen, so everything I said in his review applies to this device as well. I considered this screen to be one of the best we’ve ever tested. It is always impressive when we compare conventional LCD screens with Super Amoled displays here in our tests: The Amoled screen manages to darken the black pixels as much as possible, so it is impossible to distinguish where the cell phone starts and ends when we are in a completely dark environment.

IPS Screen vs OLED Screen. Source: Oficina da Net

A negative point of the OLED is the brightness, but it is not the case of the screen of the Poco X5, which reaches a maximum of 1200 Nits. With this brightness, we can use the cell phone even on a very sunny day.

The only negative point I can find on the screen part is the fact that the refresh rate is not adaptive – you put it at 120 Hz and it stays forever, even with the cell phone stopped reading a text, for example. It means that the battery will last less time than on a device with an adaptive screen.

External Construction

Xiaomi continues to put this black paint on the top of the phone – it’s a way to differentiate the POCO from other phones.

But differently, the POCO X5 has nothing: the construction is entirely made of plastic, the fingerprint reader is next to the on/off button, below the volume buttons on the side of the cell phone;

  • The cell phone is made entirely of plastic;
  • It has IP53 protection, which guarantees resistance against dust and water splashes;
  • One negative change that the POCO X5 has over the POCO X4 PRO is that the sound is not stereo. We only have one audio output, which is next to the USB-C connector;
  • he comes with headphone inputs e tem Bluetooth 5.1.

Hardware and Performance

Under the hood we have a processor Snapdragon 695 – octa-core with two 2.2 GHz cores and six 1.7 GHz cores. Our model has 6 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage. There are also models with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage.

When this cell phone was released a few months ago, it came out with Android 12 and MUI 13, but be aware that we already have the update and all tests were done with Android 13 and MUI 14.

Teste no GeekBench

In the GeekBench performance test, the POCO X5 scored 849 no Single Core e 2037 no Multi Core. This performance puts it close to cell phones like the OnePlus Nord CE 2 and the Galaxy A14. Nothing unexpected here.

Teste no CPU Throttling

In the Cpu Throttling test, where the cell phone is stressed for a long time, the POCO X5 had a score consistent with other entry-level cell phones – it did 169 thousand average points. This puts it in the thirty-second position in our Ranking, close to famous cell phones such as the Redmi Note 11 and Galaxy A53. It’s a cell phone that doesn’t push the processor to the limits, and therefore doesn’t heat up at all.

Is POCO X5 good to play?

But how is the performance of the POCO X5 in games? Check it out, on the Roda Liso channel we tested the phone in several games and found that the Snapdragon 695 processor runs everything ok, with some games performing better than others.

For example, in COD Mobilethe POCO X5 managed to beat the Galaxy A54, reaching 60 frames per secondagainst the 40 frames of the Samsung cell phone.

In less demanding games like Mortal KombatPOCO managed to hit incredible 90 frames of media.

But there are situations where he didn’t do very well, like in the Diablo Immortalstalling the performance in 30 frames.

Apart from the below average performance, there is something that greatly disturbed our gameplay: it turns out that the screen of our POCO X5 has a problem with the failure to record the touches.

I even thought that the problem was because of the scratched film on the cell phone, but even after taking it off and throwing it directly on the screen glass, the tracking problem remains the same.

Removing the film did not help. Source: Oficina da Net

We also tried to reduce the screen refresh rate from 120 Hz to 60, but nothing has changed, touching the screen with your finger continues to be out of sync with the rest of the gameplay, which ends up harming the gameplay a lot, especially in shooters.

Since we only have this model to test, we have no way of knowing if it’s a defect in our screen or a feature of all POCO X5s, so if you also bought this cell phone here, write in the comments how your experience has been. play with it.

Battery lasts a whole day?

The POCO X5 has a common battery with 5000mAh of capacity. This number says nothing about the autonomy of the device: to really assess efficiency, we developed the Oficina da Net battery test: there are seven different scenarios, such as scrolling on Instagram, surfing the internet, playing videos on YouTube, filming with the camera and more – all during a period of 7 hours and 45 minutes.

  • Battery: 5000mAh;
  • Charger: 33W;
  • Final result: + 7 hours 45 minutes from the phone. Completed the cycle;
  • Consumption: 73% is the battery;
  • Loading: 1h06 minutes.

To my surprise, the POCO X5 did very well in the battery test, successfully completing all steps and ending up with an incredible 27% charge left. In the ranking, it currently occupies sixth place and is the most efficient cell phone we have tested so far in 2023.

But what about charging? We know that it’s no use having good autonomy if charging takes several hours, right? The POCO X5 won here too, it took 1h06m to fill the battery from 0 to 100%this using the 33W charger that Xiaomi includes in the box.

With this cell phone here, you can live away from the socket.

Is it worth buying Redmi Note 12 4G?

Is it worth buying the Poco X5? I say it’s not worth it, at least not for the price they’re asking at the moment. The cheapest one we found here in Brazil was R$1570 in cash, too high a price for a basic cell phone.

.
It’s not a bad phone, but we don’t recommend buying it. Source: Oficina da Net

To give you an idea, for 120 reais more we managed to get the Galaxy A54, a cell phone that beats POCO in everything, except the battery.

Now, if you’re one of those people who, like us, like to import things directly from Aliexpress, the situation gets even more interesting. The price abroad is R$ 1054, but you will need to set aside some extra money to deal with the customs fee.

The Poco X5 is not a bad cell phone, it has the positive points of the 120 Hz AMOLED screen and the battery that lasts a long time of use, but it is not worth the 1500 reais they are asking.
