Max Verstappen and Red Bull more than lived up to their role as favorites in the opening weekend of Formula 1. The Dutchman won the Bahrain Grand Prix with force majeure, followed by teammate Sergio Perez. In the AD Formula 1 podcast Pitstop, F1 watcher Marijn Abbenhuijs and presenter Etienne Verhoeff look back on the weekend.
,,Smiling faces and little grumbling at Red Bull”, says Abbenhuijs from Bahrain. “The little things could be fixed quickly, said Verstappen. Although it was quite surprising that the car suddenly drove so differently on Friday compared to a week before.”
The weekend in Bahrain was also the weekend of Fernando Alonso and Aston Martin and not Charles Leclerc and his Ferrari. And not quite from Nyck de Vries, who has come a long way with his Alpha Tauri. But it is clear that there is no measure for Verstappen for the time being. ,,Don’t worry, there will be races in which Verstappen won’t win as easily as now”, Abbenhuijs reassures.
