Pokémon Pokopia Update Fixes Progression Issues

The highly anticipated life simulation game, Pokémon Pokopia, is experiencing some growing pains. Despite a strong launch and positive reception, players have encountered progression-blocking bugs that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company are working to resolve with an upcoming update. While a specific release date for the patch remains undisclosed, developers have acknowledged the issues and are prioritizing fixes.

Released exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2 on March 5, 2026, Pokémon Pokopia quickly became a commercial success, selling over 2.2 million units globally in its first four days, according to CNBC. The game allows players to embody a Ditto, transforming to rebuild a desolate world and forge friendships with Pokémon. But, several players have reported encountering roadblocks that prevent them from completing key quests.

Quest Progression Bugs Detailed

Many of the reported issues stem from specific actions taken – or not taken – during quest sequences. One prominent bug occurs during the “Let’s build a home!” quest in Pasapasa Koya Town, where Squirtle climbs a tree, becoming inaccessible and preventing players from continuing the mission. Another issue arises in the “Find a Pokémon Center!” quest in Gloomy Seaside Town, requiring players to cross a bridge before breaking blocks, otherwise completion becomes significantly more hard.

Beyond quest-related problems, players have also identified an inaccuracy within the in-game Pokédex, where the Pokémon Spinarak is incorrectly categorized. These issues, while not game-breaking, disrupt the intended flow and immersive experience of Pokémon Pokopia.

Immediate Fixes and Future Improvements

Developers are currently focusing on addressing these specific problems. According to official statements, the upcoming update will tackle the Squirtle bug, the Mojambo bridge sequence, and the Spinarak Pokédex entry. The team is investigating issues related to the “Breek the rocks with a Rock Smasher!” quest in Pasapasa Koya Town, where placing a block in the wrong location can hinder progress. A similar problem exists in the “Accept the professor with you!” quest in Dusty Seaside Town, where incorrect block placement near Snorlax can stall the mission.

The Pokémon Company and Nintendo have assured players that the patch will address both existing and potential future progression issues, and that they will continue to investigate other reported concerns.

A Flourishing Pokémon Universe

Despite these initial hiccups, the Pokémon franchise continues to thrive. Beyond Pokémon Pokopia, LEGO recently launched its first official Pokémon sets, including a highly anticipated Poké Ball diorama expected to retail for approximately €260, as reported by Pokémon’s official press release. Ports of Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen are now available on both Switch and Switch 2, and the tenth generation of Pokémon, known as Pokémon Winds & Waves, has been unveiled.

The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is also experiencing a surge in popularity, highlighted by the recent sale of a Logan Paul Pikachu card for over $16 million and the release of the Pokémon TCG: Chaos Rising set featuring Mega Greninja and Mega Floette.

The developers have announced the first limited-time in-game event, “More Spores for Hoppip,” will run from March 9th at 8:00 p.m. UTC to March 24th at 7:59 p.m. UTC.

As Nintendo and The Pokémon Company function to refine the Pokémon Pokopia experience, players can anticipate a smoother and more enjoyable journey through this unique Pokémon world. The team’s commitment to addressing these issues demonstrates a dedication to delivering a high-quality experience for fans.
