On Saturday evening, June 28, 2025, around 6:30 p.m., the operations center of the Neubrandenburg police headquarters received a report of a traffic accident in the forest near Baabe on the island of Rügen. The incident involved a 18-year-old German driver and his 20-year-old passenger, who were traveling in a VW car.
The driver was attempting to turn left into the Göhrener Weg from a forest path near the Baabe cemetery when the left front wheel of the car ran over a tree root, causing the vehicle to roll over and come to a stop on its right side.
The driver and the passenger managed to free themselves from the car. However, the passenger sustained minor injuries and was transported to the hospital in Bergen for further treatment. The driver escaped unharmed. The total damage to the vehicle is estimated at around 8000 euros, rendering the car undriveable.
