Following the violation of Polish airspace by a Russian cruise missile, Poland and NATO discussed possible protective measures. The Foreign Ministry in Warsaw announced that a conversation between Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski and Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg yesterday discussed ways to strengthen the security of Polish and allied airspace.

Stoltenberg was informed about the details of the incident and the procedures initiated in this context. Meanwhile, the USA assured all NATO countries of its “rock-solid” support. “Our commitment to NATO and the security of our NATO allies, including Poland, is rock-solid and will not waver,” said US Department of Defense spokesman Matthew Miller.

According to Polish information, Russia briefly violated the airspace of NATO member Poland early on Sunday near the village of Ozerdow during missile attacks on western Ukraine. This is “another case in which Russia’s actions, which continue its unjustified and brutal aggression against Ukraine, also threaten the security of NATO member states,” the statement continued.

According to the Polish army, on March 24th at 4:23 a.m., a cruise missile fired from a Russian long-range aircraft crossed Polish airspace and stayed there for 39 seconds. The Polish military had previously discovered that its airspace had been violated by a Russian missile at the end of December.
