As the war between Russia and Ukraine heats up, Poland sends F-16s to eastern Xinjiang to protect its airspace.

(AFP, Warsaw, 2nd) After Ukraine was hit by a series of Russian missile attacks, neighboring Poland said it had sent four F-16 fighter jets to protect its airspace on its eastern border today.

The Polish military stated in a statement: “To ensure the security of Polish airspace, two F-16 fighter jet formations and an Allied aerial tanker were dispatched.”

Russia launched a series of missile attacks on the Ukrainian capital Kiev and the northeastern city of Kharkiv this morning.

Warsaw, a member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) and the European Union, is Kiev’s staunch ally as Russia’s aggression in Ukraine approaches its second anniversary.

During Russia’s last wave of deadly attacks on Ukraine on the 29th of last month, Poland said a Russian missile had flown through its airspace.

According to the Polish military, radar system data showed that the missile penetrated the airspace for three minutes.

In November 2022, a Ukrainian anti-aircraft missile landed in the Polish town of Przewodow near the Ukrainian border, killing two civilians.
