Poland’s president says he’ll pardon two former parliamentarians

After a gathering with the wives of those political figures, A. Duda stated that at their request “he’ll begin the process for granting pardon” and the arrested “Legislation and Justice” (PiS) politicians, former Minister of the Inside Mariusz Kaminskis and his former deputy Maciejs Wasikas (Macej Vonsikas), referred to as “political prisoners”.

Mr Kaminskis and Mr Wasikas had been convicted of abuse of energy for actions in 2007 once they served within the earlier PiS-led authorities.

A. Duda granted them clemency in 2015, though authorized specialists stated that such clemency can solely be granted in circumstances the place all appeals have been examined.

In June, Poland’s Supreme Court docket overturned the pardon and ordered a retrial. In December, M. Kaminskis and M. Wasikas had been sentenced to 2 years in jail. On Monday, the court docket issued an order for the police to arrest them and take them to jail. They keep that they’re harmless, and Mr. Duda claims that the pardons he granted remained legitimate.

On Tuesday, A. Duda invited M. Kaminski and M. Wasika to a ceremony held on the presidency, throughout which he appointed two officers who labored for them as his new advisers.
