It has been confirmed that the police investigated Bae, who was identified as a key figure in the alleged misappropriation of corporate cards by Kim Hye-kyung, the spouse of Lee Jae-myung of the Democratic Party of Korea, in connection with the accusation of violation of the Public Official Election Act.
According to the investigative authorities on the 29th, the Gyeonggi Nambu Police Agency investigated Bae, a former Grade 5 public official in the General Affairs Division of the Gyeonggi Provincial Office, who was recently accused of the ‘beop car suspicion’ as a suspect in the case of violating the Public Official Election Act.
Bae denied the allegations of misappropriation of corporate cards during the last presidential election, claiming that it was ‘not true’.
Bae, who is suspected of acting as Mr. Kim’s assistant, is at the center of various suspicions such as the personal misuse of corporate cards and the issuance of illegal prescriptions that have been raised against Mr. Kim.
This allegation was raised in December of last year, when the People’s Power asserted that “Kim had Mr. Bae as his assistant for three years from 2018” and “Isn’t the three-year salary of an officer paid with blood tax used for the ‘Kim Hye-kyung protocol’?” He raised suspicions and filed charges against Rep. Lee, Mr. Kim, and Mr. Bae on charges of abuse of power and loss of the national treasury.
In February, ahead of the presidential election, Kim mobilized public officials for private errands, such as food delivery and housework, and charged additionally with allegations of paying for personal food with a Gyeonggi corporate card or obtaining illegal prescriptions under someone else’s name.
Although an investigation into the identity of Mr. Bae’s suspect in relation to the ‘suspicion of Beopka’, which is the main subject of the case, has not yet been conducted, there are observations that the police will not summon Mr. Bae soon.
This is because the investigation into the election law case, which is an extension of this case, has been conducted, and the police have announced that the middle of next month is the time to finish the investigation.
A police official said, “We cannot say anything about the case under investigation.”
