Police pursuit in Prévost: a suspected drugged driver arrested

A 32-year-old man defied the police on Saturday during a frantic chase in the Prévost sector, in the Laurentians, but a carpet with nails however slowed his momentum and allowed his arrest.

Around 6 p.m., a call was made to the authorities to report a possibly intoxicated driver who was behaving strangely near Saint-Sauveur.

Officers from the MRC des Pays-d’en-Haut located the suspect near avenue de la Gare. However, he did not want to cooperate with the police.

“He was driving crazy in the streets,” said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesman Stéphane Tremblay.

The patrol officers tried to intercept the vehicle on Route 117 in the direction of Prévost, but the driver continued his race while driving at “high speed”.

If the use of a carpet with nails made it possible to slow down the vehicle, the suspect did not want to stop and tried once once more to flee. Two patrol vehicles were needed to immobilize the car.

“One of the patrol vehicles had to ‘bumper’ it to stop it,” said the SQ spokesperson.

The fleeing driver escaped the accident unscathed, unlike his car. The man was taken by ambulance to the hospital. The SQ, however, assures that the suspect was not injured.

A blood test will be taken to confirm the condition of the driver who might face charges of impaired driving by drugs, flight and dangerous driving.

No other vehicles were involved in the incident.
