Polish President Andrzej Duda on Thursday denounced the “flawed” statements issued by the Israeli ambassador regarding the killing of aid workers, including a Pole, in an Israeli strike in Gaza.

After the envoy declined to apologize for the incident in a series of statements he issued, Duda said that he was “unsuccessful” with his statements, which he described as “shameful,” adding that “the ambassador represents the biggest problem for the State of Israel in its relations with Poland.”

Israel’s ambassador to Poland, Yaakov Livni, wrote in a post on the X social media platform on Tuesday that the “extreme right and left” in Poland accuse Israel of premeditated murder, adding that “anti-Semitism will always remain anti-Semitism.”

The Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Wednesday, that it had “invited” the Israeli ambassador to Poland to discuss “moral, political and financial responsibility” after the Israeli raid that killed seven humanitarian workers in Gaza, including a Pole.

“I have invited the ambassador… I want to discuss with him the new situation in Polish-Israeli relations and the moral, political and financial responsibility for the recent incident in Gaza,” Deputy Minister Andrzej Saina was quoted as saying by the Polish News Agency.

Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski considered that Israel should “apologize and pay compensation to the families of the victims” who were killed in the Israeli raid.

“I personally asked Israeli Ambassador Yaakov Livni for urgent clarifications. He assured me that Poland will soon receive the results of an investigation into this tragedy,” Radoslaw Sikorski wrote on the X platform, adding that Warsaw intends to conduct its own investigation.

On Monday, an Israeli raid in Deir al-Balah in the central Gaza Strip killed seven volunteers for the American charitable organization World Central Kitchen.

The organization said that its employees were bombed after they left a warehouse in Deir al-Balah, in the center of the Strip, where they unloaded more than 100 tons of food aid.

The cars carrying them bore the logo of the charitable organization that coordinated their movement with the Israeli army.
