Political actors and “Strengthening national cohesion in a spirit of serenity and strengthening ties at this particular time for the country”

Inform political actors about the current security situation in the country, as well as the measures taken by the government, under the very high leadership of the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, to deal with it. Collect the contributions of political actors with the aim of improving the actions already implemented by the executive, in order to deal with terrorist threats. These are the objectives of last Thursday’s meeting between the government and the political actors.

At the end, it should be noted that the exchanges which are part of the regular consultations which are carried out with the entire population, have been fruitful.

At the start of this meeting requested by the Head of State, the Head of Government gave an important speech, the content of which is as follows:

Minister of State,

Ladies and Gentlemen Ministers,

Dear brothers and sisters leaders and members of political parties,

I. First of all, I would like to ask you to observe a minute of silence in tribute to all our fellow citizens killed during the various attacks, perpetrated in a cowardly and barbaric manner, in the Savanes region.

2. Allow me, now, to give thanks to God for all his blessings on our country and its people and for allowing us to gather together today.

3. Then, receive the fraternal greetings of the Head of State, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, who instructed for the holding of this meeting.

Ladies and gentlemen, dear sisters and brothers, leaders and members of political parties,

4. I would like to express my thanks to you for having responded favorably to the government’s invitation and I salute the patriotic and fraternal spirit in which our common approach is part, for the benefit of the Togolese people.

5. This meeting also gives me the opportunity to salute the momentum of unity and national communion that has been observed during the various attacks suffered by our country.

6. Our reunion today is a continuation of the meetings initiated by the Head of State, His Excellency Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, in favor of strengthening inclusion.

7. The context in which they are held is marked by increased pressure from the terrorist threat in the sub-region and by a difficult economic context under the effect of multiple crises (health and geopolitics)

8. It will, I hope, strengthen national cohesion in a spirit of serenity and strengthen ties in this particular period for the country.

9. On behalf of all of us, I would like to reiterate the compassion and solidarity of the entire Togolese population to our brothers and sisters in the savanna region for their extraordinary courage in these difficult times.

Ladies and gentlemen,

10. The purpose of this meeting is to share with the political actors the state of the security situation in the Savanes region and the actions implemented to deal with it, namely the state of security emergency and the plan emergency and strengthening the resilience of the Savannah region and above all to collect your proposals, ideas or contributions to enrich the initiatives and actions that must be carried out in the fight against terrorism.

ll. The Government, under the leadership of the Head of State, is convinced that it is a collective task that we must carry out in support of the defense and security forces which are mobilizing day and night for security and the defense of our territory.

12. The Government will do everything possible to thwart these murderous attacks and violence. As the Head of State said, we are convinced that we will win victory over the armed terrorist groups. For this, we must present a united and united front.

13. I reiterate my thanks for your presence and I express the hope that this meeting will take place in a spirit of conviviality and serenity which will encourage constructive discussions.
