The results of a recent survey conducted by a research group affiliated with the Japanese Ministry of Health concluded that regarding 10% of those hospitalized with coronavirus infection are still suffering from its effects a year following their discharge.

The Japan Today newspaper reported that the survey found that the most common symptom was a decrease in muscle strength by 7.4 percent, followed by difficulty breathing by 4.4 percent, and lethargy by 3.5 percent.

The poll included 693 people who suffered from moderate to severe symptoms of the Corona virus, and were transferred to hospitals between September 2020 and July 2021.

The percentage of people who continued to visit medical facilities to obtain medical advice because of their symptoms that appear to persist one year following their discharge from the hospital was 9.8.

Akihito Yokoyama, an official at the Ministry of Health, said that although the percentage of people complaining of persistent symptoms of infection with the Corona virus decreased over time, the long-term side effects persisted “for some.”

“It is important to avoid infection,” Yokoyama added, urging people to get vaccinated and follow safety measures.
