As part of a security action in the territory of Sambreville on Saturday afternoon, police officers from the Samsom area spotted a suspicious vehicle. The latter wanted to carry out the control of its owner but he did not want to submit to the injunctions. A chase then began in the direction of Jemeppe-sur-Sambre. At the wheel of his Polo, the driver did not hesitate to take all the risks to sow the police: burnt red light, unsuitable speed, right priority not respected… On his way, he also forced a control policeman of the WPR (road police) installed on the RN98, narrowly avoiding crushing a road police inspector. The individual then took the direction of Chemin de Velaine in Jemeppe. At a completely unsuitable speed, the Polo cut the bend and collided head-on with a police car from the Jemeppoise zone which was coming in the other direction. Proof of the power of the impact, the firefighters of the Val de Sambre area, under the orders of Lieutenant Vincent Fivet, went to the scene with an extrication vehicle, three ambulances as well as the SMUR of the CHR Val de Sambre d’ Auvelais.
A reassuring state of health
The two seriously injured police officers received emergency first aid before being taken to the CHR Val de Sambre d’Auvelais and a clinic in Charleroi. The fugitive, injured, was also taken to the clinic under escort and subsequently arrested. The prosecution descended on the scene and the street was cordoned off for investigative duties.
The day after the events, the state of health of the two police officers was considered reassuring: “I was at the hospital yesterday to hear from my colleaguescomments Frédéric Henry, acting commander of the Jemeppe area.
