Pope Francis accepts the ‘Cinema for Peace’ award
VATICAN CITY: Pope Francis received this year’s award from ‘Cinema for Peace’, an international organization founded with the aim of promoting humanitarian values and social change through cinema. The founder, author and producer of the organization, Jacka Bisylj, presented the award and said that the Pope is God’s diplomat and this is a recognition of the Pope’s support for the people of Ukraine who are suffering from war.
Jacka Bizilj praised the Holy Father’s efforts over the past year and a half for the freedom and peace of the people of Ukraine, knocking on all possible doors. “The Pope is an advocate of true peace and a diplomat of God,” he added.
In the early days of the Russian invasion, the Pope went to the Russian Embassy in Rome to try to stop the war and tried to contact President Putin. Negotiations were held for the release of prisoners of war, including children. Ambulances and other aid were sent to Ukraine. Papa was always eager to create humanitarian corridors in the country. Jacka explained to the Pope that the award is dedicated to the memory of the children who lost their lives as victims of the war in Ukraine. Special mention was made of a one-year-old child killed in a Russian missile attack on March 8, 2022.
Bizilj thanked the Pope for the hope and courage he had imparted through his messages to the many suffering from the terrible ravages of war. He specifically recalled the comfort and hope that the Pope’s words gave to parents who had lost their children.
