The Holy See Press Office has released Pope Francis’ itinerary for the past two months, including the World Congress of Families in June and two international pastoral visits in July.
(Vatican News Network) The Holy See Press Office announced on June 3 the liturgical events that Pope Francis will preside in June and July. The Pope will attend the 10th World Congress of Families in Rome from June 22 to 26, where representatives of bishops from all over the world and representatives of international movements in family pastoral work will come to the Congress. The opening ceremony of the congress and the theological and pastoral meeting will be held in the Paul VI Hall. On June 25 at 5:15 pm, the Pope will preside over the Eucharist in St Peter’s Square.
On June 29, the feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul the Apostle, the patron saint of Rome, the Pope will preside at Mass at 9:30 a.m. in St Peter’s Basilica, blessing the woolen shoulder strap during the liturgy . These woolen shoulder straps are a sign of communion between the new archbishop of the province and the bishop of Rome.
In July, the Pope will conduct two pastoral visits at the beginning and end of the month. From the 2nd to the 7th, the Pope will travel to the Democratic Republic of Congo and South Sudan for the 37th International Apostolic Journey. The Pope will visit the three cities of Kinshasa, Goma and Juba to meet civil and church authorities, youth, displaced persons and victims of violence.
From July 24 to 30, the Pope will travel to Canada, fulfilling his repeatedly expressed desire to go to a country where the Church is working on the important process of reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. According to the itinerary, the Pope will travel to Edmonton, Quebec and Iqaluit.
