Automotive – Porsche has unveiled the latest version with a combustion engine from the 718 Boxster, which is the 2024 718 Spyder RS. It has been 30 years since the Boxster models were first introduced, and an electric alternative is expected to be presented in the coming period.
The 718 Spyder RS is the sister of the 718 Cayman GT4 RS, but with an open roof. Like the coupe, power comes from a 4.0-liter six-cylinder engine revving up to 9,000 rpm. It has a total of 493 horsepower mated to a 7-speed PDK Dual Clutch Transmission. It also comes with manual paddle shifters on the steering wheel.
The car can accelerate to 100 km in 3.2 seconds. That’s 0.5 seconds faster than the previous Spyder, which produced 414 hp. And the top speed is 191 miles per hour. And Porsche managed to get rid of some weight. The car also came with a carbon fiber front hood with a wide air outlet above the bumper to improve airflow. There are also two NACA air ducts that help cool the brakes without degrading the drag coefficient.
Side blades have been added to the outer edges of the bumper to increase downforce. Porsche shortened the front spoiler lip because the car lacked the massive rear spoiler of the GT4. Aerodynamic balance was a must. Instead of a rear spoiler, it features a ducktail spoiler and a hand-operated, lightweight soft-fabric roof.
It consists of two components: sun visor and weather visor. Both pieces can be stored in the trunk of a car. The car rides on 20-inch wheels with a mechanical limited-slip rear locking system as standard. It also comes with systems such as Porsche Active Suspension Management and Porsche Torque Vectoring. Drivers can also adjust front axle lift by raising the front end by 1.1 inches.
Inside, there is a GT Sport steering wheel with yellow accents and full carbon fiber seats with carbon weave trim and black leather covers. Porsche’s choice of Arctic Gray and Carmine Red is perfect. The Spyder RS logo is embroidered on the headrests. Other cabin features include a leather-wrapped instrument panel.
Buyers can choose from four exterior colors and three metallic options. Such as Vanadium Gray Metallic, Arctic Gray, Shark Blue, and Ruby Star Neo. Also available is the Weissach package, which consists of titanium exhaust tips, carbon fiber air vents on each side, and a carbon fiber rear spoiler cover. The “Weissach” logos are also embroidered into the headrests and the soft top bears the same logo.
Also included is a handcrafted Swiss Porsche Design Chronograph with a carbon fiber dial. The car comes at a price of 160,700 thousand dollars. Deliveries will begin in the spring of 2024, but before that the car will debut next month during Porsche’s 75th birthday celebration in Stuttgart. It will also appear at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
