Quebec announced a budget of $20 million to finance a project to expand the Marcel-Dionne quay, in the industrial-port zone of Grande-Anse in Saguenay, estimated at $92 million.
The work, which should only begin in 2025 and be completed in 2027, will allow the port of Saguenay to accommodate two boats instead of one and thus increase transshipment capacity, among other things in terms of oversized parts. .
“We must complete the financial package, the technical plans, make the necessary consultations, to undertake the work in 2025,” summarized the CEO of the Port, Carl Laberge. The work is expected to last 20 months, which brings us to 2027.”
“It seems far away, but it’s very close,” continued the leader. Our schedule is even aggressive. The goal is to be able to respond to demand which will increase over the years.”
Quebec Minister of Transport Geneviève Guilbault was on site. She welcomed the project, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
“The money we invest here is a strong signal, not only for the development of the region,” she said. This is an important gesture in terms of reducing greenhouse gases, for reducing air pollutants, since there will be fewer trucks on our roads.”

The Port of Saguenay has existed for 38 years. In the 90s, it welcomed 500 ships per year. This figure has been reduced by half in recent years, but the expansion project, and that of the conveyor confirmed in 2021, allow management to envisage a return to the maritime traffic of yesteryear.
