On days of high sunlight, typical of the summer season, taking photos with your smartphone can represent a challenge. Oppo experts told Gestión what are the keys to consider when capturing images in places with high sunlight, such as beaches, fields, among others.

  • Find the right light: The intensity of sunlight can create overexposed areas or harsh shadows in your photographs.

To combat them, use the shade provided by trees or buildings to soften the intense light. This will help achieve more balanced and flattering lighting.

  • Use a cell phone with a high brightness level. This will make it possible to take photos in environments with a lot of ambient light, especially if it falls directly on the screen.

Brightness between 500 nits and 800 nits in sunlight will allow you to take photos in broad daylight.

  • Minimizes lens flare: Sunny days often cause lens flare, causing streaks in images that can be avoided. The sun should be behind the subject of the photo or to the side, rather than directly in front or behind.

  • Activate HDR Mode: High Dynamic Range (HDR) mode on your smartphone is a tool for capturing a wider range of tones in challenging lighting conditions. Thus, when you are about to take the photo you must go to the adjustment symbol at the top of your cell phone.

Manuel Morey, product specialist at Oppo Peru told Gestión that HDR helps balance exposure, capturing details in both the brightest and darkest areas, resulting in more balanced and detailed images.

He further explained that unlike the HDR mode, the PRO mode allows the user to have manual control over various camera settings such as exposure, white balance and aperture.

“PRO mode offers more flexibility and creative control, ideal for users who want to customize camera settings to their preferences,” he said.

  • Lean for Portrait Mode. It is ideal to prevent unwanted people from appearing in the photograph in busy places such as the beach or pool.

For example, with the Oppo Reno 10 5G the field of vision is cut and the background is blurred more intensely.

Recommendations for taking photos underwater

Talking about summer is also talking about the beach or pool. In that sense, Morey shared some recommendations for taking photos underwater:

  • When taking photos underwater, make sure your smartphone has a waterproof case to prevent damage. Adjust the chamber’s settings before submerging it and verify that it is properly sealed.
  • Also, keep underwater lighting in mind, as the light may behave differently.
  • Avoid submerging the device to depths that exceed its water resistance capabilities. Be aware of the recommended duration for the dive.
  • Carefully clean the device after use in aquatic environments to avoid damage from salinity or the presence of sand.
  • If it has IP certification, depending on the grade, which is commonly IP68 or higher, it can be submerged for a certain time at an average distance. If these parameters are not met, the smartphone may be affected.
