Tourists were well present on the Belgian coast despite the unpredictable weather. Walloons represented 20% of tourists.
Environ 1.1 million day tourists visited the Belgian coast during the Easter holidays in Flanders, or an increase of 9%, reports the Westtoer tourist office. Some 1.5 million people also spent the night there, like last year. Indoor attractions, museums and events have attracted more interest due to the unpredictable weather.
The highest number of overnight stays was recorded over the Easter weekend, when hotels reached an average occupancy rate of 70%. Saturday April 6 also welcomed around 115,000 one-day tourists.
The share of French-speaking Belgians was lower because the spring holidays do not occur at the same time in the south of the country, but they still represent around 20% of tourist nights.
The Beaufort Triennale, the Crystal Ship in Ostend and the exhibition on Paul Delvaux in Koksijde attracted many people.
