Postage – La Poste is struggling to deliver the 5 cent stamps

The 5 and 10 cent stamps are out of stock. The cause is a shortage of paper at the printing press. A tolerance is applied in January for the new postage rates.

The production of the 0.05 centime stamps is struggling.

Since January 1, sending a letter by B mail costs 5 cents more and A mail 10 cents more. So that everyone can add the amount needed for the 85 centimes and 1 franc stamps (which are still valid), the yellow giant has issued new 5 cent and 10 cent stamps.

However, supply is difficult. Of the 56 million stamps ordered in total, only 18 million stamps have been delivered, explains Léa Wertheimer, spokesperson for La Poste. A new shipment was expected before the end of 2021, “but, due to a shortage of paper, replenishment is only expected for the next few days.”

The new stickers are always available at post offices. The 4 million reserved for online commerce were sold very quickly. La Poste also issued new stamps at 90 centimes and 1 fr. 10, which correspond to the rates in effect since January 1.

“If someone sticks a 1 franc stamp on a letter in January 2022, we will close our eyes and deliver the mail quickly,” says Léa Wertheimer. In other words, we will not claim the missing amount of 10 cents. ” Then, the rate will be applied to the letter.
