Postecoglou to a journalist: “It’s disrespectful” – 2024-03-16 18:46:35

Angelos Postecoglou has defended the right of Tottenham Hotspur’s foreign fans to watch the team’s matches live, just like the English ones.

Recently the club announced an increase in season ticket prices, which caused reactions.

Asked whether Premier League clubs prioritize attracting “tourists” or “plastic fans” (=from plastic money) who are willing to pay more to watch a match, Postecolgou replied disconcertingly.

“See this is really hard. I’ll tell you why: I’m probably a “plastic” and a “tourist” because I come from the other side of the world with a passion for football, if I might have access to watch a Premier League game that would mean the world to me.

Well, calling people “plastic” or “tourists” I don’t think is fair just because people live on the other side of the world.

This club has supporters all over the world, it has supporters all over the UK who don’t always have access to the games of people who live here.

And I think we should always be able to accommodate them and give them that feeling. That doesn’t make them any less passionate.

I think it’s really disrespectful to call fans who are willing to spend money to come plastic. You don’t know how passionate they are regarding their football team.

Maybe they only started supporting her in the last couple of years, who knows? I do not know. But that doesn’t diminish what it is.”
