The village of Kain, near Tournai, is the potato capital of Europe for 2 days. Potato Europe, the European meeting place for potatoes, is stopping off there. Organized in turn by France, the Netherlands, Germany and Belgium, and therefore every 4 years in our country, this event brings together the professionals of the sector. Thousands of visitors were already present on Wednesday.
For two days, demonstrations of potato diggers are offered in the fields along the highway. The latest innovations regarding seedlings or fertilization are shown between the potato sorting machines.
“All the skill is hereexplains Michel Christiaens, the organizer. Within a radius of 20 kilometers around Tournai, you can find the entire potato industry. It is a product appreciated by Belgians but also throughout the world. We export frozen products, all processed products.”
