Potential Breakout Defenseman: Montreal Canadiens' Young Talent in Focus

When we think about the best defensemen who have played for the Canadiens in the last 20 years, we agree that there are obvious names that can be part of the discussion.

Shea Weber, PK Subban, Andrei Markov, we can even talk about Mike Matheson…

That said, the CH has good young defenders within the organization and in a few years, surely we will be able to add other names to the group found above.

For example, David Reinbacher has the potential to make the roster. The 5th overall pick from the last draft made his debut with the Rocket and he is very impressive… So much so that there have been a lot of positive comments about him lately.

Anthony Marcotte has the opportunity to see him up close and he likes the defender’s work so far.

It’s worth what it’s worth because the comparison game can be dangerous, but the voice of the Rocket sees a bit of Andrei Markov in Reinbacher. The Habs et LNH site also published an article on the subject:

Again, the game of comparisons is not an exact science and everyone knows that Reinbacher will not have a career identical to that of Markov.

That’s not how it works, after all, even if the two players’ styles are a bit similar because we’re talking about two defenders who are calm with the puck and who excel in their decision-making.

On the other hand, it can still give a clue to Reinbacher’s potential and this is especially where it becomes interesting for the Montreal organization and its supporters.

If Reinbacher is able to become a reliable defender on the 200 feet of the ice like Markov was for so long in Montreal, there is no one in town who is going to mess around.

Markov was such a huge help to the club despite the organization’s difficult years that he is impossible to forget…
