This Thursday, April 27, the Paris Commercial Court pronounced “the opening of judicial liquidation proceedings” against Ludendo Entreprises, parent company of La Grande Récré, reports Paris Normandy. Since then, the brand’s president, Jean-Michel Grunberg, has indicated that he “received several takeover offers for the brand and the network (in particular stores and the website)”. But what are these offers?
Joué Club wants to take over 90% of points of sale
Joué Club’s offer seems the most serious. The other flagship toy sales brand in France would like to buy out its rival. Joué Club, which is a cooperative of independent entrepreneurs with 290 stores, proposes to take over 90% of the Grande Récré points of sale and 50 franchise contracts in France and abroad, indicates Le Figaro.
In a press release quoted by our colleagues, she explains that she “submitted a global takeover offer including the employees of the headquarters and guaranteeing the continuity of operation of the La Grande Récré brand”. Thus, more than 1000 direct and indirect jobs would be saved.
Joué club justifies its offer is part of “a history common to the two groups”. The brand says: “La Grande Récré being a former member of the JouéClub cooperative. The two brands share a common DNA”.
King Toy makes other arguments
For its part, King Juillet expressed during its first offer its wish to take over 97 La Gande Récré stores. “We are looking to complete our network, especially in the Paris region,” explained Philippe Gueydon, CEO of the brand with 240 branch stores and 90 franchisees.
To seduce Ludendo Entreprises, Kingtoy is highlighting the success of its Maxi Toys takeover. “We took over Maxi Toys three years ago and we haven’t closed a single store since,” said Philippe Gueydon. Figaro. Kingtoy also plays the “family” card. Both companies were taken over by the son of the founder during their history.
Chausséa and Jour de Fête also in the game
Finally, for the moment, two other offers have been submitted, one is from Chausséa, the shoe sales brand, and the other from Jour de Fête, a company specializing in disguises and decorative items. The details of the offers of these potential buyers are not yet known for the time being.
The court will rule on the resumption of La Grande Récré on May 22.
