The Czech Republic has sent a diplomatic note to Caracas requesting clarifications regarding the Czech citizen arrested last weekend in Venezuela on charges of subversive activity to destabilise the country, Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mariana Wernerova said.

Prague sent this note from its embassy in Bogotá (Colombia), which is responsible for several countries, including Venezuela.

“In this note we request detailed information about the case and consular contact. Our diplomats are in contact with colleagues from the US and Spanish foreign ministries,” Wernerova said.

Arrested

Czech citizen Jan Darmovrzal was arrested along with two Spaniards and three Americans who, in addition to alleged subversive activities, were accused of attempted murder of public officials, including President Nicolás Maduro.

Darmovrzal, according to local media, is an active reservist of the 43rd Parachute Regiment in Chrudim.

He previously lived in Singapore, where he studied law at the University of London by distance learning. After returning to the Czech Republic, he worked as a civil servant and then in the army.
