The Pramtal summer operetta can claim a “Hotspot Innviertel Award 2023” in the quality of life category. For the eleventh time this year, artistic director Harald Wurmsdobler and his team are inviting you to “a beautiful evening that entertains but also addresses socially relevant topics,” says the tenor, such as the question: “How do we deal with art?” the “Csárdásfürstin” by Emmerich Kálmán is inscribed.

It’s about a great but inappropriate love between a singer and a prince’s son. His parents even want to get a draft notice for their son in order to end the relationship. “Sylvia is the epitome of the love of art, which becomes more and more forbidden as the piece progresses. How systemically relevant is art?” reminds director Manuel Dengler of questions in the pandemic that are also central to the work. This time the German musical actor is staging the co-production with the Theater an der Rott in Eggenfelden, where “The Csárdásfürstin” premieres on Saturday. Thanks to this Interreg project, which is co-financed by the EU, but above all thanks to the great, often voluntary, commitment of all those involved, it is possible “that we can break even,” says Wurmsdobler, who has a budget of 110,000 euros at his disposal. “We are 70,000 euros short of fair pay fees, despite the support of the castle and state,” which is why one goal is to make donations tax deductible in the future.

19-member sINNfonietta under Gerhard Karl

The musical part lies in the proven conductor hands of Gerald Karl and his sINNfonietta, which – founded as a salon orchestra for the New Year’s concert – is now in use all year round. “An earworm will accompany everyone home,” promises the district bandmaster for Schärding, who peels the core of the score for his 19 musicians, with gems such as the swallow duet “I want to dance” or “Take your violin from the gypsy”.
