Prasanna Vithanage: Using Film as Political Response

Famous Sri Lankan director Prasanna Vithanage says that film is a means of political response for him, coming from a country where more than 23 percent of the population is below the poverty line. He grew up watching the civil war in Sri Lanka. Therefore, filmmaking was adopted as a medium to express the reaction, he said. He was speaking at a master class held as part of the International Film Festival.

Women are better at acting out emotions than men. This happens because men want to be portrayed as ‘macho’ characters. He said that child actors should be treated as actors and given proper guidance. Academy Deputy Director H Shaji attended.
