Yesterday evening, the Prälat Leopold Ungar journalist prizes were awarded for the 19th time. The main prizes this year went to Soraya Pechtl (“Falter”), Ö1 journalist Matthias Däuble, ORF2 editor Vanessa Böttcher as well as Stefan Melichar, Michael Nikbakhsh, Ola Westerberg and Sebastian Pumberger (all “profil”).
The prize, which is awarded by the Caritas of the Archdiocese of Vienna and the Raiffeisenlandesbank Niederösterreich-Vienna, is intended to honor outstanding journalistic work that deals with topics such as poverty, care, flight, integration, illness and discrimination – and tolerance and understanding in the Encouraging interaction with people on the fringes of society.
The prize is awarded in the four categories of print, TV, radio and online/multimedia and, with a total of 20,000 euros, is one of the most valuable media prizes in Austria. The award ceremony took place in the Brunnenpassage in Vienna and via live stream.
Recognition awards also to ORF journalists
In addition, recognition prizes were awarded in all four categories. In the print category, the award went to Lisa Kreutzer (“Diary – Journal for Controversy”), Lisa Breit (“Der Standard”) and Clemens Neuhold (“Profile”). Rosa Lyon (ORF) and Ajda Sticker (“Heimat Fremde Heimat”, ORF) received awards in the TV category.
The prizes in the online/multimedia category went to Amra Duric (Heute.at), Laurin Lorenz and Christopher Lettner (Derstandard.at) and Delna Antia-Tatic (podcast series “You decide. Point.”). In the radio category, the prizes went to Juliane Nagiller (Ö1-“Radiokolleg”), Veronika Zoidl and Julia Polczer (Ö1-“Hörbilder”) and Miriam Steiner (Ö1-“Moment”).
