Premier class plans to return to Madrid

Formula 1 will apparently return to Madrid from 2026. As the AP news agency reported on Wednesday, the Spanish capital is to be included in the racing series’ racing calendar once more following more than 40 years. It’s a multi-year contract. The race would therefore take place on a street course that runs through the city’s exhibition grounds. The official announcement including details is planned for next week, it said.

The last time a race took place in Madrid was in 1981 at the Circuito del Jarama. Formula 1 will still be in Montmelo near Barcelona until 2026. It is considered unlikely that two races will take place in Spain. According to Spanish media, Madrid might possibly replace the course not far from the Catalan metropolis earlier, and relevant negotiations are already underway.
