On Monday, the Director-General of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, urged countries to make the necessary reforms to prepare for a possible future epidemic, during the General Assembly meeting of the United Nations organization.

“We cannot postpone this,” he said in a letter to the member states of the organization, warning that the next epidemic “is likely to happen soon.”

He added, “If we don’t implement the necessary changes, who will? And if we don’t implement them now, when?”

The annual meetings of the General Assembly, which will last ten days in Geneva and coincide with the 75th anniversary of the founding of the organization, are scheduled to address many global health challenges.

An important meeting this week will also address the issue of epidemics, according to Archyde.com.
