To date, the Russian market has lost a lot of cars presented in completely different segments. At the same time, the demand for new cars fell sharply, due to a drop in purchasing power and a strong rise in prices. But despite the above, cars are still being bought. And in the next few years, experts predict an increase in demand for cars.
In this regard, there is an urgent need now for the development of new cars. But, as shown above, there are very few companies left in Russia that can do this. Therefore, it is more likely that to fill the “voids” in the market will be attracted AvtoVAZ is the only major manufacturer still operating in our country. At the same time, things are not going well at the Togliatti plant either: representatives of the enterprise recently did not rule out the possibility of concluding partnership agreements with foreign companies. This statement indirectly indicates that AvtoVAZ is not yet able to develop new cars on its own.
Under the current conditions, the Togliatti Automobile Plant has one option left: the return to the market of models that have not been produced for many years. This solution has several benefits. Firstly, the company will be able to create new cars that the market needs in a short time. Secondly, their development will require less time and money. Thirdly, by reviving old models, AvtoVAZ will be able to produce really cheap cars.
One of the novelties that the Togliatti Automobile Plant may present in the near future is the VAZ-2102 2023-2024 station wagon, the renderings of which have already been presented by the domestic designer. In conditions where even Lada Granta began to cost a lot (prices for it have already exceeded a million rubles), the appearance of such a car is fully justified. Moreover, representatives of AvtoVAZ indirectly hinted at the revival of the VAZ-2102. They recently announced that a new family of cars will soon be created on the basis of Grants. Given the current state of the Russian market, the future of the VAZ-2102 is becoming more and more real.
The platform from Grants will form the basis of this station wagon. But in order to reduce the cost of the car, it will be simplified as much as possible. The same applies to the list of equipment that will be offered with the new station wagon. That is, the VAZ-2102 will be a simple car with a minimum of equipment. Thanks to this approach to designing a model, prices for a future station wagon will not exceed a million rubles. This is important, given that the Granta family, Largus and Vesta will definitely cost more.
Most likely, the future VAZ-2102 2023-2024 will be a 5-seater car. Complete with it should offer a 1.6-liter engine installed on the Grant. At the same time, the question regarding the technical characteristics of the motor remains unresolved. Perhaps its maximum return will be 90 hp. Although it is possible that in order to separate the Granta station wagons and the VAZ-2102 for the novelty, the engine power will be reduced to 86 hp. Regardless of the characteristics of the unit, it will be combined with a 5-speed “mechanics”.
The timing of the release of the new station wagon is still unknown. But given the current need of the Russian market for cheap cars, as well as the fact that it will take little time to develop such a model, we can assume that the VAZ-2102 will debut before the end of 2023.
