President Aoun: Any Israeli activity in the disputed area…

The President of the Republic, Michel Aoun, warned that any Israeli activity in the gas file in the disputed maritime area constitutes a hostile act.

President Aoun said: “Negotiations to demarcate the southern maritime borders are still ongoing, and any action or activity in the disputed area constitutes a provocation and a hostile act.”

Following the news that the ENERGEAN POWER liquefied natural gas production and storage unit ship entered the disputed area in the southern maritime borders, President Aoun made contacts with Prime Minister Najib Mikati and a number of stakeholders to discuss these developments.

President Aoun asked the army command to provide him with accurate and official data so that he could build on the matter, pointing out that negotiations to demarcate the maritime borders are still ongoing.

It should be noted that Lebanon deposited with the United Nations a few weeks ago a letter confirming its adherence to its marine rights and wealth, and that the Karish field is located within the disputed area, and it was circulated at the time to all members of the Security Council as a document of the Council under the number S/2022/84 On February 2, 2022 and duly published. And Lebanon asked in the letter from the Security Council that the Zionist entity should not do any drilling in the disputed areas, in order to avoid steps that might pose a threat to international peace and security.

The letter also confirmed that Lebanon is still counting on the success of the mediation efforts undertaken by the American mediator, Amos Hochstein, to reach a negotiated solution to the maritime border issue under the auspices of the United Nations.

In this context, “An-Nahar” newspaper confirmed this Sunday morning that the Israeli ship to extract and store liquefied natural gas entered the “Karesh” field and crossed Line 29 and became 5 km from Line 23, in the disputed area with Lebanon.

And “Al-Nahar” reported, according to its information, that “work has begun to support the installation of the site of the ship of the liquefied natural gas production and storage unit “ENERGEAN POWER” in the Karish field,” noting that “in parallel, work is underway to lay two ships on board: the first is for extinguishing fires.” “Boka Sherpa” and “Aaron S McCal’s Second Crew and Personnel Transport”.
