London, Britain (CNN) – A British royal source described to CNN that US President Joe Biden placed his hand on the shoulder of King Charles III during their meeting, Monday, as a “wonderful symbolism of warmth and affection,” denying that he had broken protocol.
The source said about the situation that sparked controversy: “(His Majesty) feels comfortable with such communication, what a wonderful symbolism of warmth and affection between the two individuals and their people.”
And the source added, “Contrary to some news reports, in fact, this is the correct protocol.”
Biden had made his first visit to Britain since the inauguration of King Charles, where he met the British monarch and Prime Minister Ritchie Sunak.
