The lawyer Wilfredo Robles Rivera reported that he went to “the Barbadillo prison for an interview with my client, President Castillo Terrones, whom I found in discomfort and walking tired. When I asked him, he told me symptoms of Pre-Infarction and that for this reason he demanded to be evacuated to a hospital.”

The lawyer confirmed that he is in the Intensive Care room at the EsSalud Hospital, in Vitarte, in Lima (capital).

Subsequently, teleSUR correspondent, Ramiro Angulo, spoke with Eduardo Pachas, also Castillo’s lawyer, who stated that in order for him to be taken “scared” by members of the National Penitentiary Institute (INPE) to a hospital “he had to to have such an extreme situation.

“This was to be expected due to the attack by this dictatorial government, by this prosecutor Alcides Chinchay, by this man from the Constitutional Court (Francisco) Morales, who have systematically been mocking justice, health and the INPE, which the “President Castillo has been sick, he has made several requests (…) the members of the INPE have refused all medical care for President Castillo,” he said.

In addition, he commented that Castillo’s family wants to enter the health center and have information, but “those from INPE, since they are inside, do not want to give information to the family because they know that the family is going to go out and talk to the press.”

Castillo is serving an 18-month preventive detention order for the events of an express deposition by Congress, as well as another 36 months of preventive detention while he is investigated for allegedly having led a corrupt network in the Executive.

On December 7, 2022, the president announced in a televised message the closure of Parliament, the reorganization of the justice system and the installation of an emergency Executive. However, shortly afterward he was dismissed by Congress and subsequently arrested by his own bodyguard, who handed him over to the National Police.

After her dismissal, Congress swore in Dina Boluarte as head of state, who assumed office by constitutional succession since she was Castillo’s vice president. These events were followed by intense repression with more than 100 deaths.
