The President’s Office announced on the 12th that President Yoon Seok-yeol said in regards to the labor reform recently promoted by the government, “Is it the government or the state if we let the illegality rooted in violence and intimidation in industrial settings be allowed?” It was a remark that emphasized the rule of law between labor and management again, citing irregularities in hiring and wage gaps between workers.

At a meeting with government officials held at the Sejong Convention Center on the 7th, President Yoon answered questions about labor reform, saying, “I don’t think the people deserve to receive taxes unless we can normalize industrial sites where violence, intimidation, and blackmail are rampant.” The president’s office said in a press release that day.

President Yoon cited the rule of law as the most important of labor reforms. President Yoon said, “A society where wages differ by several times even among the same workers is not a normal society,” and he said that the problem of dual structure in the labor market should be resolved. He said, “If the government neglects the illegal act of employing the children of union officials at industrial sites and hiring the surplus positions, private operators will not be able to do anything.” It is interpreted that he continued his move to secure a driving force for labor reform while criticizing the union, citing irregularities in hiring and wage disparity.

President Yoon went on to say, “If we want the people to live better, we must have the courage to regulate and dismantle cartels and rent-seeking activities.”

When asked about his impressions of the results of his overseas tour, President Yoon emphasized economic diplomacy, saying, “A company is, after all, an aggregate of national strength.” President Yoon said, “Because Korea has global competitiveness in industries such as semiconductors, shipbuilding, and automobiles, we were able to receive treatment abroad.” Regarding the relationship between public officials and companies, he said, “It is difficult for public officials to adapt to the rapidly changing industrial environment if they stay away from business people.”

Regarding the drug crackdown issue, President Yoon praised the authorities concerned for their hard work and encouraged the officials in charge, saying, “It is difficult to arrest drug offenders without a spirit of sacrifice because more people than gangsters are involved in drug distribution.”

When asked about how to cook, President Yoon told an anecdote about cooking as a child. President Yoon said, “When I was young, when I fried eggs with a stainless steel frying pan, they would stick together.” . When asked to participate in the ‘Less Salt Contest’ held by the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, he replied, “I don’t like salty food, but eating delicious food seems to be beneficial to my health.”

On this day, the President’s Office produced and released a short video content, YouTube Shorts, of the on-site conversation.
