Exceeding parking times can cause severe pain, especially where most drivers have their wallets. And many people get really annoyed when they have the parking disc set incorrectly.
All those who have been perplexed can now breathe a sigh of relief: Electronic parking discs have been on the market for some time and, provided the model is approved by the Federal Motor Transport Authority, they are an absolutely legal way to avoid this type of traffic ticket.
The devices are placed visibly in the car like a parking disc or attached to the windshield and, thanks to built-in vibration sensors, determine whether the car is currently moving or stationary. As soon as the car is stationary for a minute, the built-in LCD activates automatically and adjusts to the specified arrival time.
The current price for the electronic parking disc from Rollei, the EP-1, is quite attractive; it only costs the equivalent of a warning fine, namely 19.99 euros in the ALDI ONLINE SHOP.
The Rollei EP-1 is approved by the Federal Motor Transport Authority, registers the standstill of the vehicle using its vibration sensor and sets the arrival time according to the specifications. You can attach them to the windshield with adhesive dots. Your CR2450 lithium button cell should be checked and replaced if necessary approximately every 6-8 months.
Our assessment: Nice gimmick, but you should make sure to replace the button cells in good time, otherwise it will end up being very expensive. You should also find out which regulations apply in other countries well in advance of your holiday trip. Not that your holiday money ends up being wasted on fines because your parking disc is banned in the holiday destination, as the ADAC notes in its guidelines for electronic parking discs.
