Danish Foreign Minister Lars Lokke Rasmussen said on Friday that his government was considering enacting laws to prevent recurring incidents of burnings and desecrations of copies of the Koran.

Rasmussen made the remarks during a telephone conversation with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Choukri, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Discussions focused on the repeated incidents of burning and desecration of copies of the Quran, which threaten the peaceful coexistence of societies, according to the statement.

The Danish Foreign Minister expressed his country’s regret and displeasure at such incidents in Denmark, noting that such behavior did not reflect the values ​​of Danish society.
