This is the 14th indigenous case identified since November in fenua. On Wednesday, a case of dengue fever was reported on the Rangiroa atoll in the Tuamotus. This is the first outside the Windward Islands.

The Ministry of Health recalls that the main symptoms of Dengue, which can occur 3 to 14 days following a bite, include: fever, muscle pain and nausea. It is recommended to consult a doctor as soon as these symptoms appear.

After the episode of heavy rains in recent days, the population is strongly encouraged to be extra vigilant, to protect themselves, and in particular to protect the most vulnerable people, children in particular.

To do this, simple measures can be taken individually and collectively, including:

  • Eliminate areas conducive to mosquito breeding (“breeding grounds”): stagnant water in and around houses or buildings (outdoor equipment and games, vases, pot holders, tires, gutters, gutters, etc. ) ;
  • Use effective skin repellents once morest mosquitoes;
  • Install mosquito nets, insecticide diffusers and electric rackets to keep insects away (avoiding twisting due to smoke and fire risks).
