the essentials The Davos economic forum is organizing a round table this Wednesday around “disease X”: the objective, to prevent future pandemics in the world and to better prepare. Actors in the complosphere affirm for their part that the World Health Organization and other international health actors are preparing a new pandemic.

A virus with a mysterious name cited in the program of one of the most famous international forums in the world. And, in the background, four years of the Covid-19 pandemic… No less was needed to agitate the complosphere: it accuses the major players of the world economic forum in Davos (Switzerland) to “prepare” for the next pandemic by addressing the question of an unknown virus called “disease X” during a workshop.

“Incredible, and so revealing,” says Florian Philippot, president of the Les Patriotes party, sharing the content of said round table on the web.

The former MEP claims that this workshop was only organized to “stir up fear”. On the web, the singer Francis Lalanne, who has become a figure among conspiracy theorists, willingly shares the information, believing that the authorities are forming a “voluntary rat breeding” with the sole aim of spreading “the plague”.

A list of diseases compiled by the WHO

What is it really? In its program, the Davos Economic Forum is organizing a round table, this Wednesday, January 17, centered around the question of “disease X”.

Several actors must participate in the exercise: this is the case, among others, of Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, director general of the World Health Organization (WHO), of Nísia Trindade, Minister of Health in Brazil, and of Switzerland Michel Demaré, chairman of the board of directors of the AstraZeneca laboratory. The stated objective of this round table: to debate and talk about “the efforts that would be necessary to prepare health systems for the multiple challenges that await them”.

In short, it is a question of discussing the measures that would need to be put in place if a potentially dangerous virus were to spread again in the world.

After Covid-19, “disease X”? What do we know about this potential future pandemic that the WHO fears?

The organizers of the forum thus list a whole set of diseases known today which are likely to be the subject of more active circulation on our planet: we find among others the Ebola virus, the Zika virus, the now famous Covid- 19… and this famous “disease X”.

In practice, it was invented by the World Health Organization in 2018: since then, it has appeared in the list of priority diseases and pathogens for research and development, erected by the WHO. By developing this list of potentially dangerous viruses, the health authorities are primarily seeking to prioritize research. This list “does not indicate the most probable causes of the next epidemic either”, explains the WHO on its website.

Disease X, a concept

But in concrete terms, what do we call “disease X”? Difficult to describe since it… only exists in theory. It is in fact a fictitious virus, a concept developed by the WHO to best prepare health systems around the world for the emergence of a potentially dangerous disease.

“The risk of future emergence is driven by multiple forces, including climate change, ecosystem modification and increasing urbanization. The next disease WHO in the magazine Science in 2021.

In presentation carried out in 2022, the World Health Organization estimated that 631,000 to 827,000 viruses were currently capable of contaminating humans. Among these viruses could be the so-called “disease X”.

According to researchers, it could be a zoonotic disease (which could be transmitted from animals to humans). In the imagination, this disease could cause “20 times more deaths than Covid-19”, describe the organizers of the Davos economic forum. It is therefore a question of preparing health actors for the possibility that such a virus spreads: this is also the whole purpose of the scientific framework that the World Health Organization is seeking to develop at this time. year 2024.
