Al-Jazzar said that “breathing through the mouth during sleep” is the wrong habit he was referring to, noting that it increases the risk of tooth decay.

The cosmetic dentistry specialist added that breathing in this way leads to a decrease in the percentage of saliva, and this explains the reason for feeling dry mouth and suffering from bad breath when waking up in the morning.

He explained that oral saliva is characterized by containing high levels of acids, which in turn help protect teeth from the risk of cavities, by combating bacteria and preventing them from growing and multiplying.

Al-Jazzar recommended that people who breathe through their mouths while sleeping go to the doctor immediately, because they usually suffer from a problem that leads to obstruction of the airway in the nose.

Al-Jazzar concluded his speech by pointing out that there are other bad habits that must be abandoned permanently, in order to maintain dental health and reduce the risk of tooth decay, most notably:

1- Eat a lot of sweets and sugary drinks.

2- Not paying attention to cleaning the teeth with brush and paste daily.

3- Lack of drinking water.

4- Neglecting to use medical floss, which leads to the accumulation of food residues between the tooth spaces.
